Reflections from Head of School Brian Goodbar
Dear Heritage Community,
This is an exciting time to be part of our community! We’ve increased our enrollment by 20 students (10%) from last year. I have already interviewed over 20 new students for the 2025-2026 school year, along with four PreK students for the 2026-2027 school year. With the advent of Education Savings Accounts (ESAs), Christian schools in Iowa are experiencing enrollment spikes across the state.
To support this growth, we have established a Master Facilities Planning Committee that has been meeting for several months to assess our needs. As many of you may know, we’ve contracted with an architectural firm to develop initial plans for expanding our facility. There will be more updates on this as we progress into 2025.
In the classroom, as our teachers are further implementing Teaching for Transformation, they are working on FLEx projects (Formative Learning Experiences) where our students will be connecting academic curriculum with real opportunities to practice the Kingdom Story through honest work, interactions with real people, and addressing real needs. Over time, these practices become habits, shaping our identities and actions. These elements work together to inspire a faith lived out in daily life, not just intellectually understood.
My hope is that families who choose Heritage Christian School for their children recognize the value that extends beyond our academic excellence.
- Heritage Christian School is a place where your child is known and loved. We cultivate genuine partnerships with parents and offer students the opportunity to know Christ—understanding His sacrifice (dying for our sins), the significance of that act (eternal life), and how it can influence their lives and those around them. (The Great Commission Matthew 28:19-20)
- Our extraordinary teachers and staff lead their classrooms with love, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to our mission: Serving Christ by partnering with parents to provide a biblically faithful and academically excellent education.
- One of our students, after attending the Middle School Lock-In, made this touching observation:
“When I looked around me, I realized how lucky I am to go to a school where everyone loves God. Rather than there being separate groups, it feels like we are all one big family. Even though we are all different and enjoy different things, it made me realize how God brings us together to feel like one big family.”
I truly believe these are the main reasons families choose Heritage. We are no longer the “best kept secret” in North Liberty. Parents are looking for something more than what traditional schools can offer. Thank you for partnering with us – it is a privilege to do so! Please join me in prayer for God’s direction and provision as we navigate the next steps in Heritage Christian School’s mission.
