Introducing new Head of School Brian Goodbar
Dear Heritage Community – In a short time my wife and I will be pulling into North Liberty and in no time, we will find ourselves into another school year! I am very excited to get started (after some time to get settled, acclimated, and recharged of course!) and learn even more about the community of HCS, the students, the families, the history, and the plans God has for us going forward. We will be going through the accreditation process in the 23-24 school year which will provide an opportunity to celebrate where we are thriving and what we can focus on for improvement.
With the adoption of the Educational Savings Accounts by the State of Iowa, we are looking at what opportunities these will present for growth in our school and mission to serve Christ by partnering with parents to provide biblically faithful, academically excellent education. I am sure more details will continue to come forward over the summer. With growth comes challenges and opportunities. I am looking forward to facing new challenges with the HCS staff that has already impressed me so much and embracing the opportunities that God will reveal to us as we progress into this next school year and beyond. I am excited to introduce a few new people that we have hired so far:
Please welcome our new staff:
- Mrs. Vanessa Pickart, Middle School English/Language Arts. Mrs. Pickart has been substituting at HCS this past year. She has experience teaching multiple subjects at multiple levels in multiple states (her husband is retired Air Force) We are greatly looking forward to seeing what she brings to our middle school team!
- Mrs. Suzy Barker, Middle School Math. Mrs. Barker comes to HCS with many years of experience in math education. She also teaches math at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. She is looking forward to working with our middle school students and experiencing Christian education from a teacher level.
- Miss Natalie Knapp, Extended Care Coordinator. Natalie recently (literally just) graduated from the University of Iowa and plans to be working on a master’s degree next. She has several years’ experience in parks and recreation organizations, has served as an academic coach, and several other internships. We are excited to have her join the HCS community and can’t wait to see what she will bring to our extended care programs.
- We are still seeking a PT Middle School Science teacher (with a full-time option) if you or your family knows of anyone who might be qualified and interested in serving in this position, please forward their contact information to Brenda Wichhart in the HCS office.
Have a safe, restful, adventurous summer break! Looking forward to meeting each of you soon!
