Introducing Miss Maier, 2nd grade teacher
Annette grew up on their family farm in Alburnett, Iowa. She attended Mount Mercy University and graduated in 2006 with a degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in early childhood, special education, and reading. She taught for 10 years (kindergarten, 1st grade, and reading/math intervention) in both eastern and western Iowa. While in western Iowa, she attended the University of Northern Iowa and received a master’s degree in Educational Leadership in 2014. She moved to North Liberty in 2014 and became an elementary principal with the Marion Independent School District in 2016. During her time as a principal, she interacted with many students and families dealing with mental health and behavioral issues. She quickly discovered that she had a shift in passion from teaching to helping students and families navigate the struggles surrounding mental health and behavior. In 2020, she began working on a graduate degree to become a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. She quickly realized that working as a principal and going to graduate school was too much, so she resigned from Marion and joined the Heritage staff. This has been a great transition and she is excited to serve the students and families here!
