Soccer Season
This year, HCS has joined a sports conference (IDE, or Iowa District East) which includes many of the schools we’ve traditionally played through the years, and a few more. As a result, our athletes have been challenged to more games than ever before–often three per week–on top of practices, and on top of everything else they have going on at home, school, church, and beyond. In doing so, they have demonstrated their commitment and resilience, and the outcomes have been extraordinary.
We started the season with a setback: playing at home, tied 1 to 1, our opponents from Williamsburg seized on an opportunity for a breakaway and scored the winning goal of the match. Not exactly how we hoped to start, with a 0-1 record.
What followed, however, has been remarkable. Our athletes stepped up their game, and we went on to win games by large margins, to defeat Williamsburg on their home field, and to beat the reigning 2-time conference champions Davenport, which had not lost a single soccer game since 2022. We also had our first twice-come-from-behind victory in program history. Our kids deserve a lot of credit for what they have accomplished this far.
The team went on to win 10 games in a row and held off the current two-time champions to a draw at their home field in Davenport and capped off the regular season in 1st place! At the conference tournament, the Eagles were victorious in both games and came away as the Iowa District East Champions!
Whether this is all news to you or if you are one of the committed parents who have been invested in this season since the late summer practices, let’s all join in encouraging and cheering hard for our student athletes as they take on the challenges ahead, and continue to represent Heritage with a God-honoring attitude and effort. Go Eagles!
