Second Grade Field Trip to Living History Farms

Last Thursday Oct. 25, the second graders at Heritage traveled to Des Moines, Iowa to learn about life “long ago” at Living History Farms.  Student groups rotated between three stations throughout the day learning about farming, cooking and sewing.

The farming groups fed farm animals and tried using old fashioned farm tools.  What a difference from the technology that their generation is used to using!

The cooking groups made Indian Meal Cake, which is just a cornbread, and cooked it on the hearth using coals.

The sewing group learned about where different fabric comes from like cotton, wool and linen and practiced their sewing skills by stitching a star.

Students had a great time learning about life long ago!
