School of the Wild

Each year our 4th graders get to spend a week learning and exploring in God’s creation at the Macbride Nature Recreation Area for School of the Wild. On Monday they experienced Woodlands Day learning all about trees, leaves, and woodland creatures. Tuesday was Prairie Day where they looked at different grasses, plants, herbs, as well as predators and their prey that hide in the prairie. On Wednesday they had a lot of fun learning about birds and seeing the ones in captivity as well as looking for them in the wild. Thursday was Wetlands Day where they searched for frogs, took a canoe ride on spider pond, and observed signs of beavers. The week was capped off on Friday with Archaeology Day, an opportunity to explore the ruins and artifacts of an abandoned homestead and create shelters. This week is often the highlight of the 4th grade year and is just one more opportunity for our students to experience what an amazing and creative Creator God we serve!

  1. This is such an awesome experience for the students! Quite an experience to see God’s abundance of nature up close and personal!

I’m a former 4th grade teacher and we were able to have a one day experience in nature at our local county park. The students loved it.

I’m so thankful my granddaughter, Samantha, got to have this exprience!
