Our Teacher Spotlight this week is our third grade teacher, Miss Sarah Lounsbrough!

Where are you from?
I was born in Tacoma, WA, but my parents moved to Brazil as missionaries when I was 3 years old, so that’s where I lived until I graduated from high school.
Where did you go to college?
Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, IA
How long have you been teaching at Heritage?
This is my second full-time year. The year before I started full-time, I did two long-term subbing positions for teachers at Heritage who were on maternity leave.
What did you do before you started teaching at Heritage?
After I graduated from college, I got my MA in Biblical studies from Faith Baptist Theological Seminary and did some private tutoring in the meantime. I substitute taught occasionally in Ankeny and worked at Alpha Women’s Center (a crisis pregnancy center in the Des Moines area). I also waitressed for a while and worked part-time in the library at Faith. The year after I graduated with my MA was when I first substitute taught at Heritage.
What are some of your favorite things to do with your free time?
I enjoy reading, working out/going for walks, playing the piano, spending time with family and friends, watching movies and writing.
What is something about you that surprises people when they are getting to know you?
The biggest thing is probably just the fact that I grew up in Brazil and speak Portuguese. Another thing might be that I like to go to bed early and get up early, even on the weekends!
What is your favorite thing about teaching at Heritage?

I really appreciate the staff that I get to work with every day, and I love that every day I get to teach God’s Word and integrate His truth into every subject! I get to have an impact on my students, not just for this life, but for eternity! This is what makes coming to work worthwhile every single day!
