Teaching for Transformation – A Journey Deeper Into God’s Story

A playdate, a favorite storybook, and a spark of something greater. Our kindergarteners spent an afternoon last spring with students from Faith Academy, playing, laughing, and giving books they had chosen to give away to their new friends. In their joy-filled generosity, we caught a glimpse of what Teaching for Transformation is all about, students of every age discovering that their learning has purpose, rooted in hope and lived out in God’s story.

As Christians, our hope is found in Christ alone. Out of their own personal hope in Christ, our teachers craft a deep hope, what they long for their students to carry with them 60 years from now. When students leave our classrooms and hallways, what truths of Scripture do we pray they have hidden in their hearts? That’s the question we want our teachers to answer. Each teacher’s deep hope is unique, shaped by their personal walk with the Lord. From this deep hope, teachers create a storyline which is a concise expression that helps them frame all they do in light of our shared hope in Christ.

Our realization of hope in Christ flows from the story of Scripture. We want to train our students to recognize the depth of our Creator, the nature of our sinful hearts, and the redemptive hope we have in Jesus. Once we understand God’s story, we deeply desire for students to find their redemptive role within it. We don’t want them to wait until graduation to discover this—we want them to see and live it out now!

As we teach our curriculum, framed by the biblical narrative and rooted in the hope of Christ, we invite students to actively participate in God’s story at every age. As they live out their role in His story, students begin to see how their learning connects to the truth of God’s Word and how they can impact our community for His glory. Our teachers work intentionally to guide students in discovering what God is calling them to do, both within our school and beyond.

To support this work, our teachers use a framework called Teaching for Transformation (TfT), which helps them invite students into the work God is doing. One of the ways we do this is through FLEx projects, which are authentic learning experiences that allow students to practice living out their faith in tangible ways. Every grade participates in FLEx experiences that have created lasting and meaningful impact. This folder contains some of those impactful stories across grade levels.
