My name is Matt Ellerie and I am blessed to be joining the Heritage team this coming year. I have felt the Lord’s hand in directing me to Heritage and am excited to see what He has in store for me as I seek Him and serve Him at Heritage.
God has blessed me immensely with a supportive family who loves the Lord. I have been married for ten years to my wife, Jodi. Jodi is a stay at home mom and works incredibly hard. She is a wonderfully patient nurturer, encourager, and Godly woman. We have two beautiful children, Amber (4) and Aiden (1 ½). Amber is sweet, compassionate, and inquisitive. She loves nature, books, and gymnastics. Aiden loves exploring new things and trying to keep up with his big sister. Together, we love to be outdoors, go on hikes or bike rides, play games, watch movies, and visit family. In addition to these family activities, my interests include video editing and making movies, working with youth at church, and playing strategy board games.
I grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and attended Dordt College earning my Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Upon graduating college I accepted a teaching position as a first grade teacher in Minnesota. After eight years teaching first graders, I was asked to move up to teach middle school Science, Literature, Bible, and History within my same school. I spent the last three years teaching in this position. A few months ago God placed a call in my life to seek another school to serve. In obedience, I applied at Heritage. I acknowledge God’s sovereignty in my life and am thrilled at His directing me to partner with Heritage Christian School.
A Scripture verse that has always encouraged me is Romans 12:1-2, “Therefore brothers, in view of God’s mercy, present your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. This is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is; his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” This verse encourages us to live under God’s direction and authority and in doing so, worship Him. God is sovereign and has a good and pleasing plan for each one of His children. It is my prayer for all my students as we spend our next year together that we may live outside of ourselves in service to our great God, and always trust in God’s supreme design for our lives.
God bless,
Matt Ellerie
