Fun at the Grout Museum

On Nov. 29, the first graders visited the Grout Museum in Waterloo, Iowa.  They spent the day in four different programs learning more about science and history concepts they have learned about or will learn about this year.

The first program was going inside a planetarium and finding and learning about constellations in our night sky.  The students also found Jupiter!  Next they were off to learn about Native Americans.  They learned what Native Americans used for food, water, shelter and clothing.  Then they learned a couple pow wow dances and tried to dance them while some students played the drums.

After lunch, students moved over to the Imaginarium and explored magnetic force.  The students explored how magnets pull and push by testing lots of different objects with different types of magnets.  Students saw in action how magnets repulse each other when the both the north or south poles face each other.

The final stop was to explore the Imaginarium.  Students were free to push buttons, pull objects, build things and participate in many more science explorations.  One of the favorite things students tried out was learning about electricity; several students had some crazy hair!  The students had a fun filled day and learned many new things!
