I grew up on my family farm outside of New Sharon, IA, which is near Pella. We raised hogs and beef cattle along with growing beans and corn. I loved living in the country, but I don’t mind not having to help with any more smelly pig chores!
Where did you go to college?
I attended Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA.
How long have you been teaching at Heritage?
I graduated from Dordt College three years ago and have been teaching at Heritage ever since. I taught first grade my first year here, then graduated with my kids to second grade, and I am now back in first grade.
What are some of your favorite things to do with your free time?
I enjoy participating in almost anything athletic. I ran track in college and have since continued to run. I am currently training for a half marathon. I ran sprints in college, so running a half marathon seems is a little daunting! I also enjoy reading, eating ice cream and spending time with friends and family.
What is something about you that surprises people when they are getting to know you?
I often talk very fast.
What is your favorite thing about teaching at Heritage?
When I came to Heritage, I had no idea how God would bless me with wonderful friends and coworkers. At Heritage not only do I get to show my students who God is and how He has revealed Himself in everything we learn, but I am also challenged and strengthened in my walk with Christ through my students and Heritage family.
