School of the Wild

Every year the fourth graders get the opportunity to go to MacBride Nature Recreation Area for five days as a part of the School of the Wild program. Our fourth graders went this year from Oct. 29-Nov. 2. This program is through the University of Iowa, and they have a very knowledgeable staff that is great with the students! We spend each day learning new things about the world God has created.

Black-capped chickadees fall into a state of deep relaxation when laid on their backs.

Each day has one of the following themes: birds, plants, woodlands, wetlands and a survival day. During these days, the students have the opportunity to safely catch and release birds, go hiking, canoeing and much more!

They retain a lot of information with the opportunity for hands-on learning, and we have a great time together as a class.
