Reflections from Dr. Gilbaugh

Heritage Christian School: Becoming a City on a Hill

From Dr. Greg Gilbaugh, Head of School

As we reflect on the opening months of another school year at Heritage Christian School, I am deeply encouraged by what I see. Our classrooms are filled with dedicated teachers who recognize that educating children is more than a profession.  It is a calling. A very high and noble calling.  Our students are growing academically, spiritually, and relationally, and our families continue to demonstrate their commitment to Christian education. Since the beginning of the year, we have been working intentionally to bring greater clarity and unity to our mission, strengthening the partnership between home and school, and defining what we desire to see in every Heritage graduate and teacher. These efforts are not simply about improving a school. They are about strengthening a community united around an extraordinary purpose.

But as grateful as I am for Heritage’s past and encouraged as I am by its present, I am even more excited about what Heritage can become. Jesus described His followers as “a city set on a hill” (Matthew 5:14).  This is a community whose light cannot be hidden. I believe this is a compelling picture of what Heritage is called to be. Imagine a school recognized not simply for academic excellence, but for developing young men and women of strong character, biblical conviction, discerning minds, and courageous faith. Imagine graduates who enter their families, workplaces, churches, and communities prepared not merely to succeed in life, but to influence the world around them for the glory of God. Imagine a school whose impact reaches far beyond its classrooms and whose influence is felt for generations. This is what Heritage can be, what I believe it should be, and what we are committed to becoming.

Of course, such a vision does not become reality simply because we talk about it. It requires faithful teachers, engaged parents, committed leadership, generous supporters, and, above all, dependence upon God’s grace and direction. It also requires us to build upon the sacrifices and faithfulness of those who came before us. To our alumni, former families, past and present staff, and friends of Heritage: you are part of this story. The foundation laid over the years has positioned us for the opportunities ahead. My desire is not merely that Heritage become a better school, but that it become an increasingly influential Christian institution…a City on a Hill…where generations of students are equipped to live faithfully, lead courageously, and make Christ known. There is much work ahead, but I believe our greatest days of impact can still be before us. I invite each of you to join us in that pursuit.
