Elementary School

In the Heritage K-5 program, students are given a foundation of biblical truth and academic excellence.

Choosing an education at Heritage Christian School is an investment that can have a lasting impact on your child’s future. We view each student as an image bearer of God—unique and valuable, with individual gifts, talents, and needs. Our faculty and staff partner with parents to help students grow academically, develop a strong Biblical worldview, discover their God-given gifts, and become confident leaders who can make a difference in their communities.

A Foundation for Faith, Learning, and Life

In the Heritage K–5 program, students build a strong foundation of Biblical truth and academic excellence that prepares them for continued growth throughout their education. Through engaging instruction, hands-on learning, critical thinking, Scripture memorization, community outreach, and meaningful relationships, students develop the knowledge, skills, character, and confidence they need to thrive.

Our rigorous and engaging curriculum, taught by state-certified teachers, challenges students to grow while providing opportunities to discover and develop their individual strengths. As students progress from Kindergarten through fifth grade, they build upon the foundational skills they have learned while becoming increasingly independent thinkers, learners, and members of the Heritage community.

We believe these elementary years are a crucial time for establishing a strong foundation—not only for future academic success, but for a life rooted in faith, character, and service.

Our Approach

Small Class Sizes

Current class sizes are under 18 students, giving Heritage teachers the opportunity to know each student individually and provide meaningful instruction, encouragement, and support. Our teachers seek to nurture the academic, social, and spiritual growth of every child while recognizing that each student learns and develops in unique ways.

Full-Day Program

Our full-day program, from 8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., provides the instructional time needed to develop essential academic skills while allowing students to participate in a broad range of learning experiences. Active engagement of parents in their children’s education is also encouraged as an important part of student success.

A Strong School Community

Elementary students become an important part of the larger Heritage Christian School community through weekly chapel, service opportunities, special events, and relationships that extend beyond their individual classrooms.

Through our PALS program, younger students are paired with older students to develop meaningful friendships and connections across grade levels. These relationships help students feel welcomed and connected while reinforcing the sense of community that is an important part of the Heritage experience.

Curriculum & Academic Growth

The Heritage elementary curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong academic foundation while integrating Biblical truth throughout their educational experience.

Bible

Students grow in their understanding of God’s Word and develop a Biblical worldview through Scripture memorization, Bible instruction, and the study of Biblical history and the life of Jesus. As students progress through the elementary grades, they are encouraged to apply Biblical principles to their relationships, decisions, learning, and service to others.

Language Arts

Students develop foundational and increasingly advanced skills in reading, writing, phonics, vocabulary, communication, and comprehension. Through literature, writing, and nonfiction texts, students learn to communicate clearly, think critically, and engage thoughtfully with the world around them.

Mathematics

Students develop a strong mathematical foundation through the study of numbers, patterns, operations, problem-solving, measurement, and other mathematical concepts. As they progress through the elementary grades, students build upon previously learned skills and develop increasingly sophisticated mathematical reasoning and critical-thinking abilities.

Science

Students explore the natural world through age-appropriate scientific concepts, hands-on learning, experiments, observation, and investigation. Science instruction encourages students to ask questions, think critically, and recognize God’s creation while developing the skills needed for continued scientific study.

Social Studies

Students develop an understanding of people, communities, history, geography, and the world around them. Through classroom instruction, literature, nonfiction texts, and experiences beyond the classroom, students are encouraged to understand their place in their community and their responsibility to others.

Co-Curricular Opportunities

Elementary students have opportunities to explore and develop their interests beyond the core academic curriculum. Students participate in Art, Physical Education, and Music each week.

These experiences give students opportunities to develop creativity, physical skills, teamwork, self-expression, and an appreciation for the arts while complementing their classroom education.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Education at Heritage extends beyond the classroom. Students have opportunities throughout the elementary years to apply what they are learning through experiences in the community.

Field Trips

Field trips provide opportunities for students to visit local organizations, explore new environments, and engage with experiences that expand and reinforce classroom learning.

Community Service

Through Christ-centered service opportunities, students learn the importance of serving others and develop qualities such as social responsibility, empathy, compassion, and citizenship. One of Heritage’s main service initiatives is Operation G.O.O.D., which gives students opportunities to put their faith into action through service to others.

Preparing Students for What Comes Next

The elementary years at Heritage Christian School are about more than preparing students for the next grade level. They are about building a foundation for a lifetime of learning, faith, character, and service.

From Kindergarten through fifth grade, students are encouraged to grow in confidence, develop their God-given abilities, think critically, build meaningful relationships, and understand how their faith shapes the way they learn and live.

Our goal is to partner with parents in laying a strong foundation on which students can continue to build throughout their education—and for the rest of their lives.
